Covid-19 in-store Vaccination Service
Summary of COVID-19 vaccines
The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommends the COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine (Comirnaty) as the
preferred vaccine for those aged 16 to under 60 years. The recommendation is due to a higher risk and observed severity
of thrombosis and thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS) related to the use of Vaxzevria COVID-19 vaccine (AstraZeneca) observed
in Australia in the 50-59 year old age group.
The Vaxzevria COVID-19 vaccine (AstraZeneca) is recommended but not limited to those aged greater than 60 years.
For those aged 60 years and above, the individual benefits of receiving a COVID-19 vaccine are greater than in younger people.
The risks of severe outcomes with COVID-19 increase with age and are particularly high in older unvaccinated individuals. The
benefit of vaccination in preventing COVID-19 with Vaxzevria COVID-19 vaccine (AstraZeneca) outweighs the risk of TTS in this age
group and underpins its ongoing use in this age group.
People of any age who have had their first dose of Vaxzevria COVID-19 vaccine (AstraZeneca) without any serious adverse events
should receive a second dose of the same vaccine. This is supported by data indicating a substantially lower rate of TTS
following a second Vaxzevria COVID-19 Vaccine (AstraZeneca) dose in the United Kingdom (UK)
Our COVID-19 Vaccination Service
We are now vaccinating against COVID-19 with the Vaxzevria COVID-19 vaccine (AstraZeneca vaccine) and COVID-19
Moderna (Spikevax) vaccine. We are not vaccinating with Pfizer (Comirnaty) vaccine as pharmacies have no access to this
vaccine from the federal government.

A large proportion of the public are concerned about being vaccinated with the Vaxzevria COVID-19 vaccine (AstraZeneca)
and understandably so considering the negative facts around blood clotting issues presented by the media. Remember
the Vaxzevria COVID-19 vaccine was never banned for younger people but rather preferred for those over 60 years. We
encourage all individuals 12 years and older to get their COVID-19 vaccinations especially during this outbreak in Greater
Sydney. It is only when Australia and New South Wales achieve herd immunity (ie a target of 80% or greater of the public
fully vaccinated) that we can safely interact and get back to normality.
We are able to vaccinate with Vaxzevria COVID-19 vaccines (AstraZeneca) to individuals that are 18 years and older and 12
years or older with Moderna (Spikevax) vaccine who has no precautions or contraindications to COVID-19 vaccination
and after obtaining informed consent. Below are links to the consent form and information on both Vaxzevria COVID-19
vaccine (AstraZeneca) and Moderna vaccine. Please complete the consent form and bring it with you to your vaccination
appointment.

What is Informed consent?
As authorised Pharmacist Immunisers we must obtain informed consent from each individual, that is you. Informed

relevant health concerns. This is to ensure that we have thoroughly assessed for your suitability to receive either the
Vaxzevria COVID-19 vaccine (AstraZeneca) or Moderna vaccine and to ensure that you are fully informed of the benefits
and potential harms of the vaccine prior to vaccination. Please read the information on the either the Vaxzevria COVID-19
vaccine (AstraZeneca) or Moderna vaccine (the links above) before attending your appointment.
Anyone with a history of any of the following medical conditions listed below will not receive the COVID-19 AstraZeneca
